Wagner is a senior product designer with roots in graphic design. He started at a small agency in Recoleta and later spent three years in the United States. He has worked in industries that have little in common, and in every one of them the job was the same: making software ask less of the people who use it.

Wagner Henriquez

In his spare time he’d rather be outdoors. Sometimes a long way up.

01 — Who

Wagner designs software that people rely on to get things done.

Part of it is tables, forms, invoices and error states, the screens someone has open at 7am because there’s work to do. It rarely photographs well, and it’s the part he likes: finding the friction people repeat every day and designing it out.

The rest is consumer apps, where the first few minutes decide whether people stay. Depending on the team, he has been the lead designer, the only one or one of several.

He also codes

Before product design was his job, he built layouts with HTML, CSS and JavaScript for fun. He still does.

Good design shows up in the numbers.

02 — How

He lets research decide what goes on the screen.

He starts with the people the product is for. He watches them use it, gathers what they complain about and what they ask for, and counts it. Add the analytics and a look at what the best products in the category do, and the debate about what to build first usually ends there.

Then he decides what earns a place on the screen. What people come for goes first and everything else moves a level down. He tests the options, and when the one that works best costs more to build than the quick fix, he argues for it.

Industries: healthcare, digital banking, industrial marketplaces, consumer hardware.

Understand.Find the friction.Fix it.Repeat.
